Primate Enrichment Manager

The Tulane National Primate Research Center is seeking applicants for its Primate Enrichment Manager position. 
 
Responsibilities include the following:
 
Under the direction the head of behavioral management, the Primate Enrichment Manager will oversee the operation and continuous improvement of the TNPRC environmental enhancement program, including the social management of nonhuman primates, physical enrichment, animal training, and behavioral interventions.  This individual will supervise and organize the daily duties and workload allocation of the Enrichment Technicians to ensure that they follow appropriate protocols and achieve the goals of the enhancement program.  The Manager will, on a timely basis, compile and analyze data to report progress of the implementation and outcomes of our program activities to the head of behavioral management for her use in analyzing trends and making program decisions. This individual will be responsible for identifying problems with program implementation and developing recommended solutions. He/she will engage key stakeholders to ensure that problems are communicated and resolved successfully. The Manager will develop, coordinate and deliver personnel training activities related to the enhancement program.
 
Minimum qualifications:
 
Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years’ experience working with non-human primates or other animal species, including previous work experience, in any occupation, as a supervisor/personnel manager
 
     or
 
High School Diploma/Equivalent and eight (8) years’ experience working with non-human primates or other animal species, including previous work experience, in any occupation, as a supervisor/personnel manager
 
Preferred qualifications:
 
Advanced degreein a relevant field
Four years of experience in implementing or planning behavioral management techniques
Involvement in research, including data collection and analysis
Experience working with nonhuman primates
Expertise in components of behavioral management
Familiarity with pertinent legislation and policies
 
Required knowledge and skills typically needed to perform this job:
 
Knowledge of environmental enhancement techniques in order to improve psychological well-being
Knowledge of nonhuman primate behavior
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, including excellent time management and organizational skills
Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of standard office software
Demonstrable ability to perform data management and analysis, and to develop training material
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
The demonstrated ability to work with nonhuman primates and other laboratory animal species without jeopardizing the health of said nonhuman primates and other laboratory animal species
