Senior Director, Behavior Rehabilitation
Jobs & Postdocs
Posted Jan 17

Summary:

The Senior Director, Behavior Rehabilitation plays a critical role at the ASPCA’s Behavioral Rehabilitation Center (BRC) in Weaverville, NC, a one-of-a-kind facility dedicated to the study and rehabilitation of dogs who are unadoptable because of behavior problems. Ultimately, the BRC focuses on two main goals: (1) the study and rehabilitation of dogs who suffer from behavior problems that compromise their quality of life and prevent adoption, and (2) elevating shelter animal behavior programs across the country through sharing emerging best practices.

The Senior Director of Behavior Rehabilitation will oversee the BRC’s direct, on-site work with behaviorally compromised animals. This person will manage two direct reports and lead a team of ten animal behavior experts. Areas of focus will include the creation and use of behavior modification protocols to increase adoptability and improve quality of life, enrichment strategies to reduce stress and progress tracking procedures. The Senior Director of Behavior Rehabilitation will work closely with other BRC Senior Directors to provide consistent, supportive leadership for the BRC team. This position reports to the Vice President of the BRC.

The BRC is part of the ASPCA’s Rehabilitation Services group, which also includes the Cruelty Recovery Center (CRC) in Columbus, OH, and the Recovery and Rehabilitation Center (R&R) in Pawling, NY. All three facilities provide opportunities for animals to heal after rescue. Protocols and procedures used by Rehabilitation Services teams promote constant collaboration across all areas of expertise to achieve the best, most balanced support for animals. As they engage in hands-on care, teams prioritize the elevation of our work through ongoing learning. BRC, CRC and R&R staff play an integral role in advancing the animal welfare field through research, developing effective, efficient interventions and establishing new best practices, which the ASPCA shares through the Learning Lab - also part of the Rehabilitation Services group---on ASPCA Pro, and at professional conferences.
