RESPONSIBILITIES:The Department of Animal and Poultry Sciences seeks an exceptionally well-qualified educator with a strong interest in developing and educating the next generation of leader for animal agriculture to join the department as a Professor of Practice. The successful applicant will interface with dynamic faculty, advising staff, and undergraduate students, providing state-of-the-art expertise in education, advising, and mentoring.
This is a non-tenure-track, 12-month appointment in the Department of Animal and Poultry Sciences (APSC) with advising and teaching responsibilities. The successful candidate will be expected to bring specialized industry expertise to the instructional programs of the department, leading efforts in professional preparation of students, including but not limited to expanding internship and other experiential learning opportunities. The incumbent will teach classes in their area of interest and expertise, interface with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Academic Programs Office; and contribute to existing scholarly efforts in the department, college, and university. The faculty member will be encouraged to remain active in the livestock, dairy, equine, and/or companion animal industries in ways that contribute to the undergraduate program in Animal Sciences.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in animal sciences or a closely-related field.  Preference will be given to candidates with: 1) a demonstrated understanding of production animal agriculture, the equine industry, and/or the companion animal industry; 2) prior experience and demonstrated success teaching Animal Science first year and/or sophomore-level courses; and/or 3) demonstrated dedication to undergraduate student advising and success.
SALARY:Salary is commensurate with education and experience.  Virginia Tech offers a comprehensive benefits package.
