Abstract
Copulatory behavior is critical to the reproductive success of internally fertilizing organisms, and yet, careful study of this important event lags behind our in-depth study of many other pre and post-copulatory behaviors. In the last 20 years, Dr. Brennan has closely studied copulatory structures and behaviors in many vertebrates, and using examples from her research, she will discuss some of the reasons behind this lack of study, and ideas can help to move the field forward, increasing the diversity of the questions we ask, and the scientists themselves. She will argue that we need to consider the impact of the sexual behavior questions we ask and don’t ask to society.
