July 11-15, 2023, Portland, OR
The 2023 ABS Annual Meeting will take place on July 11-15, 2023 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon.
Dear ABS Members and Friends. We are pleased to invite you to Portland, Oregon in July 2023 for the annual meeting of the Animal Behavior Society. Portland itself is a vibrant city with numerous attractions including the Oregon Zoo, Powell’s Books (the world’s largest independent bookstore), and of course Voodoo Doughnuts! The Convention Center is located in one of the most dynamic neighborhoods in downtown Portland. It contains Oregon’s largest shopping mall, the Veterans Memorial Coliseum and the Moda Center. It plays host to sporting events, parades, community marathons and concerts. Everything is a short light rail or streetcar stop away, including many fine hotels, restaurants and shops.
As we return to our first in-person meeting (with a virtual session afterwards) in the United States since the beginning of the pandemic, we hope to bring you many of the same events and features that we have enjoyed in previous years. Our Keynote Address will be delivered by Dr. Daniel Blumstein, the winner of the Richard Buchholz Conservation Behavior Award. We will also have two Fellow’s Lectures, two Plenary Lectures, a DEI Plenary, and the Presidential Address by Dr. Susan Alberts. We have six exciting symposia including the annual Allee Award Session, a Past-President’s Symposium highlighting the unsung heroes of ABS, and four contributed symposia. There will be five workshops held on July 11th, a Public Day on July 15th, and the annual Charles H. Turner Workshop. See the lists below for the names of all plenary speakers, symposia, and workshops.
Socially, we will be bringing back the Opening Reception on the evening of July 11th. While we are still planning events for the conference, you can look forward to a LIVE episode of the Animal Behavior Podcast, the Annual Film Festival, poster sessions, and of course the banquet on July 15th. This year will also mark the return of the Silent Auction! So please consider bringing cool and interesting items to be auctioned off (e.g., artwork, books, past ABS swag); all proceeds go to one of the ABS award funds (Graduate Student Research Awards, Latin American Initiatives Fund, George W. Barlow Award, or Student Travel Grants).
We will continue to plan fun and exciting events for you and if you have any questions or suggestions, please reach out to one of us. We look forward to seeing you in Portland!
