I am seeking a field technician to assist with two projects at the Mountain Lake Biological Station in Pembroke, VA starting at the beginning of March until the middle of May in 2017. The research is focused on hormonal mechanisms of reproductive timing and mate recognition and their role in the maintenance of population divergence between two populations of dark-eyed juncos that differ in their migratory behavior and timing. The field technician will assist in all aspects of the project, including but not limited to: mist-netting/catching birds, caring for captive birds, measuring and bleeding birds, finding nests, and observing behavioral trials. Additionally, the technician will be responsible for sample and data management and entry.  Field experience, especially related to mist-netting or handling birds, is preferred but not required. Individuals with an interest in field biology or pursuing a graduate degree in this field are especially encouraged to apply. This experience will be rewarding but also demanding: you will develop new skills and gain experience in experimental design and data collection. However, you will be also expected to work long hours with limited off days in a challenging mountain environment. Compensation is dependent on funding, but room and board are guaranteed.
