From AIBS: the OMB Grants Rule Isn't Final — Congress Needs to Hear From You
In May, the Office of Management and Budget proposed a sweeping revision of the rules governing every federal grant. If finalized, it would let political appointees override independent peer review, allow agencies to terminate active awards when priorities shift, and restrict the conferences, publications, and professional memberships through which research reaches the public. The comment period has closed, and OMB intends the final rule to take effect October 1. That leaves only a few weeks to influence the outcome, and most congressional offices have heard very little from their constituents about the harm it would do.
The American Institute of Biological Sciences (ABS is a member) and others across the scientific community urge you to contact your Representative and Senators and ask them to press the White House to withdraw the rule. Keep up with the NSF through Virtual Office Hours!
Each month NSF’s Directorate for Biological Sciences holds a Virtual Office Hour where program officers share updates from NSF, outline new funding opportunities, or highlight ongoing funding opportunities like CAREERs or the Postdoctoral Research Fellowships in Biology. Program officers present on the month’s topic and then open up the VOH for Q&A with the audience. The VOH series can be a great way to learn more about NSF even just by listening in.

The lab of Michael Reichert in the Department of Biology at Oklahoma State University is recruiting graduate students (MS or PhD) for Fall 2027. Our lab does integrative research on animal communication and cognition, with a particular focus on acoustic communication in treefrogs. Current projects include the relationship between metabolic rate and variation in call traits, effects of parasites on hearing, and communication in complex networks. Tenure Track position in Neuroethology
McMaster University invites applications for a full-time (12 month) Assistant Professor in Neuroethology. We seek a researcher studying the neural basis of natural behavior at any level of biological organization using state of the art techniques. Working at the crossroads of neuroscience and animal behavior, the ideal candidate will investigate phenomena at multiple levels of analysis with an ecological and/or evolutionary focus.

Two faculty positions at Brown University, Cognitive and Psychological Sciences
The Department of Cognitive and Psychological Sciences (CoPsy) at Brown University is searching for two colleagues, both starting July 1, 2027. Research should address one or more of three themes: the interface between artificial intelligence and human cognition, collective cognition and behavior, or mechanisms of mental and brain health. The searches are aimed at candidates working on basic, computational, or experimental science rather than clinical intervention or assessment. CoPsy is a highly interdisciplinary department with links to the Carney Institute for Brain Science, the Watson Institute, the Data Science Initiative, and the NSF AI Research Institute on Interaction for AI Assistants (ARIA).

Tenure-track professor in integrative organismal biology
The University of Puget Sound, Tacoma, WA is hiring a tenure-track professor in integrative organismal biology. We seek an animal-focused biologist whose teaching and research address how organisms develop, function, and/or evolve. We are particularly interested in candidates whose expertise would support an upper-level course with laboratory in evolutionary biology, animal physiology, developmental biology, or related integrative field. The successful candidate will develop an active research program that provides meaningful opportunities for undergraduate participation and professional growth, and is feasible in a predominantly undergraduate setting.
