Hotel Accommodations
We are including are recommendations based on our knowledge of the city but ABS is not responsible for potential issues that may arise from choosing these housing options.
The 2022 Annual Meeting of the Animal Behavior Society will be held within the Hotel Crowne Plaza San José Corobicí Conference Center. This hotel is located at the northeast corner of the “La Sabana Metropolitan Park” close to downtown San José, 15 km southeast of the Juan Santamaria International Airport on Highway 1. The nearby neighborhood called “Paseo Colón” (three blocks southeast of the Crowne Plaza, along Highway 2 on a map) is a vibrant commercial area with a variety of food options. If looking at the map, please note that because Highway 1 to the north of the Crowne Plaza becomes the 6-lane “Interamericana Highway”, it is not easy or safe to travel on foot to the north of the conference venue. Just 2-3 km to the east, the city center offers a variety of historic sites, museums (Gold, Jade, Contemporary Art, National, Children’s), souvenir shops, and other interesting places to visit (Chinatown, Barrio Amón, National Theater, Central Market, Simon Bolivar Zoo).
In terms of lodging options, we recommend staying within ~5 blocks of the east side of the park so that you will be within walking distance of the conference venue and various food options. If you choose to stay further away, transportation by taxi and Uber are always available, but please be aware that traffic can be intense in San José, particularly between 6:30-8:30 am and 4-7 pm.
Short-term Rentals
There are many options available in all price ranges on vacation rental sites such as Airbnb. Some of the options are more affordable than hotels. We recommend paying attention to reviews by previous renters, and being wary of rental options that do not yet have any reviews. In the interest of COVID and personal safety, we suggest that it would be worth considering rental of “entire place” over “shared room” or “private room”, and choosing a location close to the east side of Parque La Sabana.
