Interested in
birds, animal behaviour, cognition, or field biology? We are looking for a temporary, part-time
Field Assistant to help with research on the behaviour and cognition of wild birds in British Columbia.
What you’ll do:
• Assist with the
capture, handling & banding of wild birds
• Conduct
behavioural observations
• Assist with
cognitive testing of wild corvids
• Help with field equipment and data collection
• Hike to field sites while carrying a pack/equipment

Where: South–Central Vancouver Island and North-Central BC mainland

When: October & November; flexible dates arranged with the researcher
⏱️
Hours: Typically 3–8 hours per field day
💰
Pay: Starting at
$18.50/hour, adjusted for experience
Applicants must have a
valid driver’s licence and be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. Some field sites are remote and have
limited or no cell service.
Preference will be given to applicants who can drive themselves to and from field sites, although some transportation can be arranged. Applicants able to work in
both geographic regions are preferred, but this is not required.
Some overnight travel may be required.
Accommodation and per diem will be provided when overnight stays are necessary.
Previous bird or field research experience is an asset but not required. Training will be provided as appropriate.
